Another Silly Computer Question.

Everytime I log-on one of the little icons in the right hand corner, keeps saying that there is a new java update. What is java. What does it do to my computer. Do I need it. Please remember you need to put your answers in layman's terms, so I can understand them.  |

Certain computer programs use it in the coding, and some websites also use it to run the applet they want. It's good to keep it updated, but it is a huge download for a dial-up user. |

The forum shortens the web addresses of sites that end in a parenthesis*, so the link he posted didn't direct you to that page.
