I think the fact Starbucks' product is complete shiite is no small part of the story.   Stir the pot

No doubt.  That's like 12 beers and a Slim Jim.

After getting all excited about the 'Fuzzy's Hot for Clive' tangent I went back and read the article. Interesting stuff. When I am in the mood for a coffee I usually go to a Caribou or Dunn Brothers that are in town. Interestingly the one Mom and Pop I frequented closed shop.

I typically just get a black coffee. And the reason I avoid Starbucks is that I agree with UB's editorial. I think their product pales in comparison to others.

While the price for a cup of coffee at any of these places is steep, no one sells plain black coffee for $4.00. The large (20 oz.) is $2.00. I rationalize this by not going out for lunch most days and staying away from the vending machines at work.  Wink

I've been visiting a locally owned one-off coffee shop in West Valley for years. It was started by two former Starbucks managers. When I started going there, you could get a 16oz cappuccino for $1 (they're $1.65 now, but that's due largely to the rise in milk prices). A couple of years ago the evil empire moved in right next door to them. I spoke with them about it right before the Starbucks opened and they were truly frightened about what it meant for them. Now they seem in agreement with the article in question.

I will buy from Starbucks when I'm desperate and there's no other option available, but that isn't very often.

I honestly think Starbucks fans the java-loving flames of folks around their stores, creating more business for all.  They are the rising tide that lifts all coffeeshop boats.

I stop at Starbuck's, on occasion, but I stop at other coffee shoppes more often. I like to frequent the smaller shoppes with a personal touch. But I LOVE coffee, and if Starbuck's is on the way, then so be it.

I don't mind Starbucks coffee, but whenever I ask for a regular, medium-sized coffee, the staff looks at me like I'm talking a different language. Roll Eyes

One of the reasons I don't even bother.  Kind of like asking for a hot dog at a steak joint.
