The use, correct or otherwise, of commas is, in some circles, thought of, although not, I should add, confirmed to be fact, as making the written word more difficult, cumbersome, and, in many ways, a pain the ass, pardon my French, than one would initially suspect, to read, were one to give the matter much thought.

Turn that bird upside-down, and it looks, like a comma.

With all due respect to the young lady, perhaps she should pick up a copy of Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Trusse.

Quote
A panda walks into a café. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and proceeds to fire it at the other patrons.

“Why?” asks the confused, surviving waiter amidst the carnage, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

“Well, I’m a panda,” he says at the door. “Look it up.”

The waiter turns to the relevant entry in the manual and, sure enough, finds an explanation. “Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.”

I find that whenever I'm in, doubt, about where to use commas I just, say the sentence, out loud speaking like Christopher Walken and,.  Then it's pretty, well obvious where the commas should go.

Whenever I read the body of work Jules has accumulated here, the voice in my head turns into Walken rather quickly.  Walken on a heavy regimen of estrogen and perhaps lithium, but Walken nonetheless.

I'd give you karma, but I want to be the one to bump you into triple-digits.
