Blu-Ray v. HD-DVD II ?
« on: January 10, 2008, 05:44:36 PM »

So......just saw this from the CES show. I happen to be involved in standards work in my job so it caught my eye. I seriously doubt Sony has a shot with this particular strategy but they like to be their own dog.:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22594777/

LAS VEGAS - The dream of eliminating the rat’s nest of wires connecting your computer to your printer and other peripherals could be turning into a nightmare.

Even as the first wireless USB systems are reaching the market, drawing a lot of attention at the International Consumer Electronics Show this week, Sony Corp. has thrown a wrench into the works by unexpectedly announcing what looks very much like a competing, incompatible standard.

The confusion comes as some of the biggest technology companies — including Intel Corp., Microsoft Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co. and Samsung Electronics — have created a format to cure one of the biggest headaches involved in running a computer.

LOL

Why hasn't anyone done anything about eliminating the bigger rat's nest behind all the A/V equipment?

Agreed. This is an odd one for sure. Going up against Intel, Microsoft and Samsung?? Not to mention everybody else who hooks in to a PC via USB that will get in line behind those gorillas.

Wow, that is just dumb on Sony's part. This is not going to put a dent on the USB market should it materialize.

Don't Know Doesn't this just open the door to some third party getting rich on making Sony to USB/wireless adapters?

I believe my PS2 is the last Sony anything that I will purchase.  It's the only thing in my house still Sony.  When it dies, Sony dies in this household.
