Yes, Microsoft's new Zune digital music player is just plain dreadful. I've spent a week setting this thing up and using it, and the overall experience is about as pleasant as having an airbag deploy in your face."[/quote]

Wow, that is a really harsh review.  I thought it was a standard blog rant at first, but it's on the Sun-Times. Grin

That might not be Zune's fault. After about a year of operation, it's almost as if a Windows machine develops some sort of antibodies that prevent it from recognizing new hardware. But what's Microsoft's excuse for everything else?

After a little bit of research, I've come to the conclusion that there are vastly cooler options available to the non-iPod crowd than M$'s latest offering.

This is not a rhetorical question... have any of you seen a single positive Zune review?

This thing, seemingly by all accounts, is currently garbage.  Now Microsoft has the luxury of being able to support a dog product for ages while they try to figure it all out.  Perhaps in a few years it'll be a decent player.  But I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm an iPod guy.  We just went to three in the household (well, come 12/25).  But I can understand some of the reasons people don't want to go that route.  As Spacey said, if you don't want an iPod there are other choices out there.  Don't go with a Zune.
