How to know when you frequent a store too much?
« on: March 13, 2008, 09:15:18 PM »

Answer: When said store personnel come and chat with you.

We make a quick run over to Menards weekly.  Well, maybe not that often.  But more than once a month for sure.  Of course, then there are other times that it's more often than that.  Anyway, doesn't matter if it's a Sunday afternoon, Tuesday morning, Thursday evening, etc., seems like every time we're there, Chris is there.  Outside of seeing him there, we don't know him.  But he's one of those guys that can tell you about just about anything and everything there.  So if we have a question, we look for him first.

Was there twice today (furnace issues), Chris saw us come in both times and came over to chat. lol

The coffee shop I go to knows my "usual," and has it rung up before I get to the counter, does that count?

Heh, I used to have the mentality that when a coffee or lunch place started knowing my "usual" it was time to move onto a new place*.  I saw it as signifying that I was in a rut and needed change.  That changed at my last job when I found out that it meant I sometimes got to skip the line and they'd have my usual ready for me in a jiffy.

* This was back when I was contracting a lot and envisioned myself as some sort of wandering, nomad-like KungFu/Hulk/A-team/Mary Poppins/Fugitive character that came into a company, solved problems, then moved on to the next town. (cue the sad, walking away music)

At the time, I also used to have a series of shell scripts and batch files to delete everything from my machines in case I had to walk away in a hurry. (I also watched Heat too many times back then)

"Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner."

Yes.

Large light roast was always waiting for me when I got to the front of the line.

Has its drawbacks.  Like when they have he Everything bagel, toasted golden brown going when they see your car pull in to the parking lot.  But you really wanted a cinnamon raisin today.   Sad

Ah - its one of the reason's I quit my former job.... too much travel.

In my case it was hotel personnel that knew me by name, knew what I drank, etc.  (in St. Paul no less  Wink )

Embassy Suites, Bloomington, about every other week for almost two years.  Would walk in the door and get greeted as Mr. Hobbit, given a nice room on the 2nd floor (my preference), etc.  Then after work I'd walk into the bar where they knew me even better (not as much turn-over as the front desk) and had my beer poured before I sat down, with a nice 'great to see ya, how are you doing, etc.'

Someone moved into the house two doors down from me two years prior - and I knew the people at the hotel better than my own neighbor  Embarrassed

It was time to move on.

I knew I was there too much when the employees started making fun of me.  (Golf shop.)

That was about Week 3, I think.
