After reading the article once more, I'm still not sure I understand the point of the proposed rule change.

Johnson and coach Herm Edwards argued that the hair is technically part of the uniform, but the penalty likely stemmed from a confrontation with safety Ike Taylor in the immediate aftermath of the tackle.

"The dude had hair," Johnson said. "What do you want me to do? They said hair is part of the uniform last time I checked. That was the only thing I could get my hands on."

Once he got a hold of Polamalu's locks, Johnson had trouble removing his hand, which prompted Taylor to come over and look out for the best interests of his teammate's flowing mane.

It is unlikely that Taylor, Johnson and Polamalu exchanged advice on shampoos and conditioners.

"It's real cute that Ike Taylor comes over and tries to defe nd his boy when that wasn't what was going on," Johnson said. "If I got penalized I hope it's because of me hitting Ike Taylor in the face twice and not for pulling Troy's hair."
