LOL But how is GEO ducks pronounced GOO-EY ducks. Apparently, it's due to a spelling error. Link(The phonetic pronunciation of "gooey-duck" has roots in a Nisqually First Nations name "gwe-duk" that means "dig-deep." Somewhere along the line, "gwe-duk" was anglicized to "goeduck." A later typo in anthropological records takes us to today's spelling of "geoduck," even though the original pronunciation has sort of been maintained.) I figure this error's not nearly as egregious as naming indigenous North American "Indians".  |

Don't forget about the UC Santa Barbara Banana Slugs! ( I think that's the name), and we watched Sunday Morning this past week, and there is a community college whose mascot is the Artichoke (it has heart).

Totally not to be an ass, but it's UC Santa Cruz that's the Banana Slugs, not Santa Barbara. UC Santa Barbara is probably the Saline Implants or something (It's actually the Gaucho's, although I'm not sure if they're referring to the pants or the hispanic cowboy. Probably the former.) |
