Backup Bag
« on: April 13, 2008, 08:36:09 PM »

Guys in golf forums all over the place have a backup bag listed in their sig.  I have no notion of the meaning of this concept.  Do they carry the backup bag around in case the primary bag is stolen, tired, sulking... or what?

I have an old bag.  It has my previous set of irons in it.  It has a driver I used to use but doesn't have enough loft for me.  It has no 3W, 5W or hybrid.  It has a bent putter.  It's very dusty.  I think I know where it is but I wouldn't bet $5 on it.

I have an extra set of clubs, fairly decent ones too. I probably wouldn't call them a "backup" set more like a "friend is in town, wants to golf, doesn't have clubs" set. They've been used maybe four times. I'm probably going to sell them, just as soon as I get around to taking pics and having an time and energy to list them on ebay.

Why would you do that?

Are you not expecting any more friends to come into town?  Or is it that your club sharing generosity has run out.

I 'gave' my old set of irons and wedges to a friend.  Someday he may pay me for them.

So I don't have a back up set either.  I do have a back up driver which has its own back up.  I think drivers need to know that they can be benched at any time.

I have one old set of irons and my first metal driver (freakishly small compared to today's technology). I'd sell the old irons but they aren't worth the effort to put them on ebay. More likely a donation to the First Tee or something like that.

I usually have two putters so I guess you could one a backup.

I am so sure that I posted in this already, maybe I'm getting the 'zeimers.

Anywho.

Guilty as charged. I bought a set of clubs off ebay about 3 years ago, so then my ye olde set became a backup, I don't know why, just in case? But then I also started buying "replacements" for the new set, at about $10.00 per club I couldn't resist, so now I have three sets. Last year I decided to get rid of my old Hogans, tried to sell them...no luck, tried to give them to jr. golf...didn't want them, I don't know why. So I gave them to a man who had none.

But I still have a backup set, I don't know why. Tongue

Ps. I also have a set of womens clubs around here somewhere, a failed attempt at, something, I don't know what.

I have a *feces*load of clubs that I am too lazy to get rid of, but nothing resembling a back up bag.  I do however have 5 drivers that I mix up from time to time...(I'll bring a different one next time.)  Wink

Russell has a backup set of drivers.
He keeps buying new ones, and when one misbehaves it goes in the bag in the cupboard, and one of the others is brought out to see if it will behave itself. Grin

I have one set of irons. A couple drivers, several putters. I cant hit any of them. Why waste money having two sets. If I buy a new set it will probably be because I sold the old one.

There's a "taint" joke in there somewhere.

And as for me .... no.  I have (*cough*) three (*cough*) spare golf bags in the garage, filled with various golf detritus: iron sets, individual irons, woods, wedges, shafts, hickory blanks, 48" ramrod, 48" clubmaker's ruler, etc.  I guess I could put together a bag of clubs for a traveling friend, if I weren't as selfish as Spacey.
