Recently, I've started to try to do a small work-out before hitting the sack.

ROFL! Karate Champ! My brother and I used to play that game for hours. I bet I spent $50 playing Karate Champ in a single summer.

Karate Champ!

I used to love that game and for years afterwards I would yell out "Begin!" "Point!" "Stop!" in that ref voice at barely relevant situations.

It's one of those things that's etched into my brain and will probably be one of the last things to leave.  I have this vision of myself sitting in a convalescent home someday doing nothing but mumbling incoherently to myself "Point!", "Stop!", and probably "Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, select, START" as well.

Here's a funny homage to Karate Champ:
http://www.progressiveboi...m/archive/karatechamp.htm

Excerpt:
Quote
In the end, Karate Champ machines were sent to the eternal graveyard of Galaga-era classics. It's rare to find a game so complex and bizarre in such an unassuming package.

I have a dream about Karate Champ.

I walk into a Food Lion or a Piggly Wiggly somewhere in the Midwest...Kansas, maybe. Eventually I get tired of flipping through the wrestling magazines and there it is. A brand new one player Karate Champ game. No ho-ho-robbing cretins to hog the glory. No clerk to bitch out my Mom if I hit him in the back with a can of Pringles in disgust. Nothing but Karate Champ and I.

I spin kick the bull in the nuts and he drops into that beautiful beach's sand.

It's been too long.

I would imagine that Heaven is full of Karate Champ games. Correction...if anyone can place undying faith in the Lord above there are Karate Champ games in Heaven's convenience stores, and for the rest of my life I'll stand there, mesmerized, while Kurt Cobain and that guy from "Blind Melon" cram ding-dongs into their jeans.

Jesus is in one of those sailboats and he proclaims me his hero.

"Stop...judge. Eternal bliss."

Jesus loves me. This, I know.

Sweet.! Nice post.  Always been one of my favorite games.

Funny, it has always been in the back of my mind when you see someone get "owned".

This is just the first time I've thrown it up there.

I need to develop a "regular" routine.  I'm not close enough to the "Y" or any other club, to make it worth joining.  so, right now, I will limit it to the treadmill at home.

Problem is my time schedule.  The best solution is in the early AM, but I can't stand getting up early, and have all of my life.  I tell ya, 4 years in the ARMY was a biT#h!.

Hard when I get home, 'cause I've been gone all day, I've been at work, I just want to sit, and spend time with the family.

Wife and kid got to bed reasonably early, but late at night is no good, I'm already well into the elixer of life.

I dunno.  We'll see.  Winter may be a better motivator for morning.

How, when, where, if..........you guys.
It's tough getting into a routine.  I'm like you, I hate getting up early, and later in the evening it's time for a couple of adult beverages.  And in your case, you've got kids and that takes time too.    Anyway, I'll usually work out during my meal break.  I'm able to go to a gym that's nearby so that helps.

I had a Bally's membership in San Antonio,  lived *maybe*  a mile from the club.  It was easily walkable/runnable/drivable/whatever.  and if you were not home, but headed there, easy to get to from just about anywhere in the city.

When I moved here, I located the nearest Bally's on the map.   Drove there (got lost several times), and it was a dingy dark dump.  Old machines, etc.   Called them on the phone and told them I wanted to cancel out.  They started to hassle me, etc... saying they were just going to upgrade the facilities, etc. I then told them, well, that's fine, but I don't want to be at a gym I can't walk/run to. They said "our maps indicate you are just 5.2 miles from our nearest center",  and I said... yes, but during NON-rush hour driving, that's still at least a 30-40 minute drive.  They replied with blah blah, stay and we'll lower your membership, etc....    Finally I just said cancel now and hung up. They still send me renewal cr@p in the mail 2-3 times a year.
