osu-michigan rematch !

Not so fast, my friend!

The Gators are not yet out of it.  Another big win in the SEC title game, one loss against the nations toughest rated schedule, possibly some "anti-rematch" sentiment among the voters.

Not a done deal yet!

who exactly says its the toughest rated schedule?

but (as of last week...4/6) of
the bcs computers mostly had florida schedule waaaaaay  under  michigans

yes, the conference overall was tougher, but....

example,  arkansas losing to usc now looks even worse than it did before, etc

and when it comes down to it...  you compare the losses...    1 to osu by 3 (at osu),  1 to auburn by 10 (even if the last 7 came late) to auburn (at auburn)

auburn for example,  had a cupcake OOC schedule...  if they had a good OOC schedule like florida,  then the loss wouldnt hurt florida nearly so bad...

i just see the computers  digesting this all in UM's favor

I'm not a fan of UM or Florida.  I just don't think it's in the bag for UM.  Florida also played one game more than UM.  Don't know what, if anything, that will mean to the little man behind the curtain that runs the BCS computer.

Unless CBS and ESPN reported it wrong, BCS rated Florida's schedule toughest in the nation.  UM was a few hundreths of a percent behind with the third toughest.

I think to best make a mockery of the BCS would be a UM win over OSU by 3 or less.  Then you have two teams with equal records, and each has beaten the other  by comparable margins, so essentially nothing would be settled.  Add in an impressive win by UF in their bowl game, then you have three teams all claiming to deserve the title.

ESPN also reported that Vegas would've opened with UF -6 against UM if they were to play head to head.

fair enough,  but!
those #'s were based on opponents  W-L  records.   those don't factor in 'neighbor' tables of who those wins came against. (and who those neighbor's  neighbors are. etc)
 Wink

i'll admit  i'm pulling for a UM  -  OSU rematch.   not that I hate florida or anything, I simply think their case isn't strong enough

I had a hunch it would go that way.  I also think at play in the voters minds is that the SEC is owed some sort of payback for 12-0 Auburn being left out in the cold a copule of seasons back.  I also think the BCS and NCAA would prefer to not have two teams from the same conference in the national championship game.  A Big 10 vs SEC match up broadens the base of fan interest more than Big 10 vs Big 10 does.  At then end of the day it's all about TV ratings and money, not fairness.

i agree, auburn was jobbed 2 years ago

i just can't respect florida's  "schedule" with a d1-aa school, 1 ooc game against a "good " school on the road, and overall,  only 4 road games out of 13.

when osu beats them by 14 or 17,  wisconsin wins against whatever sec team they play, and penn state loses close...  in their bowls,   it will be clear the wrong 'vote'  was made  this year.

ugh, i just get sicker and sicker thinking about it

games (against d1 schools)

11-1 vs 11-1

loss: #1 usc on road by 3  vs  #12? auburn on road by 10

common opponent  beat vanderbilt by 20 at home vs  by 6 on road

home games: 7  vs 8

road games: 5 vs 4

margin of victory against d1 schools 17 or so  vs  10 or so

hardest road games: nd, osu , penn st   vs  auburn, tenn , florida st.

hardest home games: wisc, iowa  vs  lsu, georgia

worst 'almost upset by' moment:  penn st. vs  south carolina

if   osu beats fla,  mich beats usc, and wisc beats arkansas   final polls should probably be  1,2,3  big 10
