I wrote a patent application for an inventor some years back, directed to a device not too unlike that described in the Wikipedia link. I just took a tour through the USPTO website (ah!) and found that the application was abandoned. Disappointing -- I'd always hoped the inventor would get the patent and obtain a sweet license.
