Fuzzy's big adventure and summer plan
« on: May 04, 2008, 04:34:51 PM »

I used to be a fairly religious exerciser/runner back in the early to mid-90’s but then family and a renewed interest in golf happened. Well 16 months ago I looked in the mirror and instead of the usual ‘damn, you are good looking’ it was more like, ‘dude, you need to get back in shape’. Nothing too serious but I was packing an extra 15 pounds I really didn’t need. So I got serious on an indoor bike and when it got nice I started running outside again. It felt really good to be back at it.

By September last year I had lost ~20 pounds (now it’s closer to 25) and I was feeling really good. So I took a metabolic assessment test (VO2, aerobic base and anaerobic threshold) to get a baseline and put together a twelve week program to improve my fitness level. And it worked. Why? Because some crazed women friends of Susan’s talked me into something. They ran a half marathon last May and the Twin Cities Marathon last October. Yeah, so in February I decided to start a training program to run the half with them.

Yep. The race was this morning. 1 hour 35 minutes and 56 seconds.  Headbang   I actually felt really good. I did stay pretty disciplined to a pace until the last mile where I picked it up a bit so I do think I have a better time in me.

Anyway, in June I start an 18 week training program for the Twin Cities Marathon which I registered for three weeks ago.  Shocked

I know you said that you are looking good Fuzzy, but just be careful, running is not good for your breasts or facial muscles...........that's my excuse for not running and I'm sticking to it. Grin Grin Grin

Congrats on the half time and the return to running!

Back in the day, I could not imagine a future in which I did not run.  Yeah, well, I can imagine it now.
