Not mine, but my brother's.  The Golden Child, as we call him.  BS and MS (Biomedical Engineering) in 4.5 years, on full ride and while working as an RA to boot.  Marries high-school sweetheart.  Gets PhD from well-regarded university.  Lands good job with large, stable company.  A few years later, their business interests change and he moves to smaller, more start-up-ish company.

Was informed Friday that he was laid off.  About 8 weeks' severance.

It's hitting here too. My brother in law now working from home (his office closed) for a fraction of his salary. They sold their house to an investor from whom they are now renting; so he's renting the house that used to be his.

Is this a sign of the global economic depression that you predicted?

Best wishes to him in finding something new.

It is not advisable, James, to venture unsolicited opinions. You should spare yourself the embarrassing discovery of their exact value to your listener.

Heard today he starts his new job next week.  Only one exit farther down the road than the old job.

I missed this thread the first time around, but I'm glad to hear that your brother is employed once again. Smiley

Just occurred to me: he got a paid four-week vacation, another month's pay for nothing, and a job at a better company.

"Golden Child" indeed, the little *fudge*er.
