I just re-read this today without the blended Canadian whiskey, and I believe you are attempting to mock the World Series, which is baseball.  Not the afore mentioned Super Bowl.  Unless you are arguing they are discriminating NFL which would be akin to ignoring the WNBA.  LOL

So this deal was the Super Bowl of soccer?

No way.  Soccer doesn't have ANYTHING as big as the national championship of a sport played in a single country.

 Laugh at you

+1 back at ya!

As I read it, he's actually mocking the comparison of the Super Bowl, a national championship of a game played in a single country, (as long as you don't count the CFL as the same sport, which I don't) to the [whatever the hell the name of this championship game actually is], which apparently is a very big deal in a sport that is played all over the world, but is still boring as hell, even if you're drunk.

My initial question was simply:  Was this match an end of the season championship to crown a title in whatever league they play.

It was the championship game for a multi-league tournament held every few years.  There is no comparison in the US because no one else plays our sports, therefore a multi-league tourney is moot.

Makes more sense on the blended whiskey - I suggest an ample dosage.

In regards to footer, I've never been able to work out who the *fudge* names a team "Real Madrid"?

On the other hand Basil had some issues with a waiter/porter named Manuel

I thought it was a very typical soccer match, goes to show ya' I guess, I don't watch it with the critical eye some of you'se have, NTTAWWT.

I haven't seen anyone mention that the field was absolutely horrendous, it was a grass field placed on top of a synthetic field (leave it to the Russkies  Scratches Head). Also the game started at almost 11:00 PM local time, and when the rains hit (sometime around midnight local) the field started to come undone.

I know you're all Ronaldo haters and I understand why, so to see him miss the PK was funny, and it may have been called back if he had made it, showboatin' ass munch. But when JT missed his I actually felt kinda bad, after what he had been through recently with his mother it would have been nice to see him win it for his team. Class act when Scholes or Giggs went up to him first thing after the match and said something nice to him.

When people slam soccer for ending matches PK stylee I always point to games like this, arguably two of the best players in the world miss from what, 13 paces? ( I actually forget) Can anyone say Roberto Baggio, I know that you can. Although if you watched the replays Terry's foot slipped (rain?, *feces*ey field? both? irrelevant!).

Typical soccer match on a crappy field, first ever game played on two fields and on two days. Russians ftl.

Well, there's a king in Madrid.  Not so much here.  Maybe our team should be called Prophetico Salt Lake.

Seamie, the pitch was savaged by the players/press all week prior to the match.  Moscow in May for a C.L. Final?  Some people have crazy in their brain.

Ronaldo's the best player in the world but also the biggest douche in British football.  I was delighted he missed.  Terry is a fantastic player too.  I guess I feel bad for him... nah.  Anyone man who cheats on his wife with schoolgirls is also a douche.

PKs blow.  Golden Goals rule.  I think we had this discussion here once.   Wink
