I just realized that it's been exactly 30 years since Affirmed did it. You'd think that it would have be easier to do so since NY state lifted its ban on Lasix 13 years ago.

well, since 78 i think they said there's 11(out of 30)  that have had the chance to get the triple (winning kd, preakness)  how many of those were since the allowance of lasix?  ... i can't remember.

anyways, factor in the longer race length, and the fact that there hasnt been very many horses that showed major major pullaway ability. at both kentucky/preakness...   i'm not that surprised.  didn't affirmed run very close races in all 3 ?    will there ever be another secretariat?  was the horse that good, or did they just dope the *feces* out of him more than any other horse ever.   modern horses aren't coming anywhere close to his belmont time.
