You can get a SERIOUS ticket in Europe for slowing down the fast lane.

While I agree with the sentiment, I'm having a problem with folks who think the left lane if for folks who want to go as fast they want to. It's not.

A law was passed here last year (I think) making it a violation to not move to the right for faster moving vehicles. As far as I can tell it hasn't made any difference. There is some debate as to which car the trooper ought to pull over- the guy speeding or the guy who won't get out of the way of the guy speeding. We actually have people around here who take great pride in making it their personal mission to ensure that no one can speed and will get in the left lane and drive the exact same speed as the cars next to them.

I agree with MFAWG.

One problem around here are four lane roads that aren't highways but have 50-60 mph speed limits. They often have intersections with lights, left turns etc. I'm not pulling over to the right lane when my left turn lane is 1/4 mile ahead and you think you need to do 80.

Confirmed.  I think it's related to trying to save people from hell.  Or they're *bunghole*s.  Maybe even *bunghole*s from hell.  Hellacious *bunghole*s.  Something like that.

I live very near a road like you describe. I don't feel I should have to drive 80 mph to make my left turn. On the other hand when driving across country I always drive in the right lane unless I'm passing.
