Teenagers arrested in CBD robberies
August 6, 2008 - 7:40AM
Two teenagers have been arrested following a series of robberies in Melbourne's CBD.

A teenage boy aged 17 of Coburg, and a girl, 16, of Epping, approached a 19-year-old Carlton man on Collins Street about 12.30am (AEST) and demanded cash or his mobile phone.

When the man refused, the teenage boy threatened to stab him, police say.

A short time later the pair approached a 30-year-old Melbourne man in Flinders Lane and prevented him from walking until he demanded cash or his mobile phone.

Feeling threatened, the man punched both offenders in the face before reporting the incident to police.

The teenagers were observed on cameras and arrested in Flinders Lane.

They were bailed to appear in the Melbourne Children's Court on September 5, each charged with two counts of robbery.

Police encourage anyone who saw the pair approaching pedestrians in Bourke Street outside Myer just after midnight to contact Crime Stoppers.
