EPL Week 1 [SPOILERS]
« on: August 16, 2008, 09:50:45 PM »

Whew!  My Arsenal won, but it was not a relaxing win.  Should have beaten them by several more goals - story of the team in recent years, need a finisher.

Liverpool had an even scarier win, Sunderland gave em all they cold handle.  Great comeback by Blackburn - I think Everton are in trouble this season, they did absolutely nothing in the off season.  Dean Ashton carries the Hammers to a win (yep, I had him on the roster  Wink ). And what about the new boys Hull City with a win!

Now for the tips:

Spanky - Fabregas was hurt and not playing this week - placing the C on him was a boo boo  Wink

Campy - You know Ronaldo is out for the first month recovering from surgery right?  And the C on him?  Ouch!

The red icons next to their names - that means something  Cheesy

Fuzzy, Fuzzy, Fuzzy.  What are we to do with you?  Wink  Fabregas is hurt (see above), and Song and Hoyte are not even starters for Arsenal (although Hoyte may get bought by another team soon and become a starter).  Anyway, unfortunate choices on them.  And Chelsea haven't played yet, but I'm betting that Shevchenko doesn't make the lineup either.

Yeah, thats right - the hobbit has Setanta now!  Grin

Thanks, I think.  Smiley  I was not aware that Renaldo was hurt, and the only reason I picked him was that was the only name I recognized.   Embarrassed  I guess I better at least make an effort to keep track of this if I'm going to get called out every *goshdarn* week for  my mistakes. Grin

Yea I know, problem is I was playing around after I got back from vacation and didn't realize the stupid thing started this weekend.

I made bigger mistakes last season so this is nothing new.

 Sad

Pompey have no midfield.  None.  Zilch.  Zippo.  Square root of *fudge* all.  It's all well and good to have a top five strike force but some managers believe a bit of service is necessary too.  Chelsea are very, very good.  Hate.

I can't chuckle at the poor picks as I have Tevez as my captain.  I thought Rooney was hurt.  I knew he was scheduled to dress but I figured him for a substitute.  But no, he starts with Campbell and Tevez isn't even on the bench.  How in the hell don't United blow out Toon anyway?  WTF.  My season is a mess already.

Arsenal will struggle (they'll be top five of course but that's about it.)  Book it*.  Liverpool are better and will solidly take third.  No team will come close to United and Chelsea.

* Unless Arsene pulls his head out of his ass re: replacing Flamini and Hleb.  Nasri is a nice addition but not enough.

LOL.

While I enjoy soccer I have to admit I really don't follow it as I should. I'm treating this as a learning year.

Tips appreciated.  Wink Smiley

As hobbit says keep an eye on those red marks.  Also, have a look here http://soccernet.espn.go....?league=eng.1&cc=5901 every Friday night.  Click on the 'v' for each match and look at the preview.  It'll include a projected line-up.

By the end of the season you'll be discussing the merits of playing a 4-4-1-1 against a team with strong center backs.

Pompey got pounded.  Yes, Chelsea is very good and it pisses me off.  Shared Hate.  And how is it Deco gets no card for studs up on the knee of Diarra?  wtf.

I made my own gamble that didn't pay off too.  News was Ramsey was going to start, then at the last moment Nasri is good to go and Ramsey is out.  Oh well, didn't expect great things, just a homer pick  Wink

I still think Arsenal is a top 4, but we're not going to top the league table for half the season like last year.  Gallas still proves he cannot captain - arguing with his own players in the back again.  Someone needs to keep the team focused and he does the opposite.  Sigh.  Yep, still need that Flamini replacement - Arsene could have spent the money, but choose not to get Barry or Alonso.  I'm going to give it until the end of the transfer window, but right now me nots happy.

Great game between ManU and Newcastle though!  I liked the result too  Cheesy
