Computer to Home entertainment
« on: October 11, 2008, 08:21:31 AM »

I want some real quick suggestions on how to stream video and music to the home stereo. I haven't ruled out connecting the computer up but is there another method that would allow me to play movies and iTunes on the tv and stereo?

It's a home theater in a box type. It does have an optical input but we are not audiophiles so it's no big deal. The tv does have hdmi and componant inputs but only one hdmi and 2 componant.

I have 5 year old Mac connected to the TV screen.  Toshiba hdtv.  Tried connecting sound to the stereo (Onkyo) using regular audio out and the static was horrid.  I then used the optic out from Mac to the stereo.  Works like a charm.

I once thought of using appletv and found out that there are limitations that are not a problem with present set up.
