dlaidman was adamant that one MUST take relief from ground under repair -- i.e., that the option to play it as it lies is never available in GUR. His opponent played it from the GUR and beat him.
He invented some sort of grammatical mathematics. To wit, one MAY take relief from GUR. If one chooses to do so he MUST do it a particular way. Apparently, MAY times/plus/subtract/divide/to-the-power of MUST equals MUST. He pimped this theory across seventeen golf forums on five continents. I stalked him in lurker mode on golfmagic.com for a while. After a while I came to the conclusion GolfBhoy was going to lead the rest of the forum on a quest to track him down and murder him.  Good fun really. Just one more example of what these so-called "internets" do to otherwise reasonable people. Ted |
