FWIW, I'm technically a 20.3 but it'll be a great day if I stay under 100.

Ditto. I took some lessons, a couple years ago, and tried to really learn golf. What I did was manage to screw up what little success I had ever had with the game. Of late, I've been stuggling to just get back to the game. Besides, wish, you should feel free to show us anything. Anybody seen my blue sock?

USGA 17.1
I'm pretty sure.
I keep two. One "official USGA" formula and another where I count inactive season rounds if the course warrants it. I can confirm from home. Sorry, must post a correction. USGA index - 17.7UBGA* index - 16.8Take 'yer pick. * Uisce Beatha Golf Association

What's the highest handicap I can possible have? That has to be about what mine is. About 140-150 for 18...

What's the highest handicap I can possible have? That has to be about what mine is. About 140-150 for 18... 3-4. Maximum Handicap Index
The maximum Handicap Index is 36.4 for men and 40.4 for women. (See Section 10-5d.)

The maximum Handicap Index is 36.4 for men and 40.4 for women. (See Section 10-5d.)What does 40.4 translate to? (I don't know how to figure an index)

The maximum handicap ladies can hold here is 36, men 27 (although senior citz are allowed to go out to 30).. I would assume that 40.4 would mean that on a par 72 course in order to play to your handicap you'd need to shoot 112 or better...

The maximum Handicap Index is 36.4 for men and 40.4 for women. (See Section 10-5d.)What does 40.4 translate to? (I don't know how to figure an index) Depends on the course slope and some black magic. According to the USGA you should beat your index about 25% of the time. So if your course is sloped at 107 (113 is average by definition) the calculation is 40.4 * 107 / 113 = 38.25 for a course index of 38. Assuming a par 72 course you should break 110 one out of four times. You're saying that's not the case but the USGA doesn't consider a higher index so you're out of luck.

Roughly true but depends on the difficulty of the course (see above). It's hopelessly flawed. Don't ask me to defend it.

So to be a true 40.4 I need to do a bit of improving. Maybe my new clubs can help with that.
