Currently this is being done here.

I guess if you can vaccinate one half of the population as well as prevent Cervical Cancer then yeah... its a good thing.

I just don't like how it was forced into law so quickly. Gov. Perry I am sure got some kind of kickback.

In Greece it's already mandatory, and the state pays for it too.

As an old friend once said, explaining why he was perfectly content to keep his family to 2 sons, "With boys, you have 1 *8==>* to worry about; with girls, you have to worry about all the *8==>*s."

My little girl is pretty cute; I'm screwed.  That's why she's in martial arts, so she can defend herself against the penis.

My wife didn't take martial arts.

maybe its because we aren't parents yet, or that I'm a guy... but this makes sense.

you get your kids vaccinated for all kinds of *feces* they probably will NEVER be exposed to.    hpv is everywhere.

Laura has already decided that if we have girls they will get the shot/s. However, I am not certain I'm comfortable with a state issued mandate, though IIRC parents are able to opt out.

My wife has done a lot of reading about the statistical link between autism and either DPT or MMR vaccine (brain fart on which, but it's administered as a cocktail of the three).  Autism went from ~1:10,000 to ~1:300, and it's more prevalent in boys.  The link is no slam-dunk, but it's non-trivial to more than a handful of sane people.

We'd like to administer each vaccine separately, rather than bundled.  We can't even find a practice that offers them that way -- everyone has only the full, mainstream cocktail.

We also looked into the alternative (not immunizing): NC law will not permit our son to enter school with all three, absent a religious objection that pretty much NO ONE qualifies for.

Where's MY state's conservative group bleating about the State replacing the parents?

Clive- I'm no expert and will not claim to be. I'm wondering, though, what the time period is for the major escalation of cases of autism, and curious if some of the numbers might be at least partially related to better diagnosis of autism?

Certainly I can't assume that much of a rise being completely related to better diagnosis, but I know over the last 30+ years much of what was considered "that kid just ain't right" now has a name, which can often lead to somewhat skewed reporting of the per capita rise of many popular diagnoses.

Mrs.Clive has a toxicology background and has taken such things into account.

IIRC it's not just vaccination but also vast other environmental exposures through toxic compounds that is suspected in  autism rise

We waited as long as we could to do the MMR, it was the same 'well, no school for them if you don't' for us.

No pressure though.

There isn't anything solid with the link, but there are strong suggestions.

And we are talking about kids, it's not like that flaky link between smoking and tummy ache.
