Don't sell yourself short!  When he wants info about good quality tunes, he be looking you up.  When he decides to get info watching tv from other than 13 inch set, you know he will humbly seek advice. Grin

I can't see where the CV joint is that big a deal. Firing an axle in there shouldn't be more than 2 or 3 hundred bucks.
