How to help...
« on: January 23, 2008, 04:11:00 PM »

...my oldest wants to make a video to apply for a job with Disney.

I shoot the video, and then I'm guessing I transfer it to my computer with the cables supplied with the video camera.

1) not quite sure how, audio and video in jacks?
2) do I need a special program at this point to make it an mpg or avi file?

Thanks.

unfortunately no, it's a VHS-C (small vhs tapes), it's probably at least 10-12 years old.

sounds like you'll need a capture card.

I've got a VHS to DVD recorder that I bought at Costco (GoVideo), I suppose I could shoot on the VHS, create a DVD copy from that, and then transfer it into my MuVee producer hardware that I just found on my computer.  Undecided

Or just shoot the video on my digital camera and transfer it into my computer, does that even make sense? lol.

Thanks Ted, I may get something like that in the future.

If I have to buy a digital camcorder is it uber easy?

I've got like 3 movie editing programs on my computer but none of them read .MOV except QuickTime and I can't edit in QT unless I upgrade to pro.

it would depend on what kind of inputs you have on your computer . seriously.
even then , converting the raw video to dvd format can be very time/resource intensive also.
on old machines it can take a day.

Thanks mang. I have a fairly new (last year) and fairly fast pc, several usb 2.0 inputs and a couple 1/8 jacks looks like for a/v?

I don't need to anything fancy right now, just need to make it mpeg, or one of several other types.

Thanks again.

ok, with usb2.0  the transfer should be easy enough   .   as long as you can handle the native format,  with a newer pc the conversion should only take a couple of hours at most.

the native format means extension? like my dig camera creates a .MOV which doesn't seem to work in any of my editing programs.

right?
