J.P. Hayes calls a penalty on himself resulting in a DQ.  But, DQ'd himself out of the last stage of Q School, therefore leaving him off of The PGA Tour of the upcoming season.

Linkage.

Very noble, and very sad.

I feel bad for him and hope he has a good year doing whatever he will be doing.  He's at 7 Mil. lifetime so I doubt they'll cut his heat off.

I applaud him upholding the rules of the game regardless of the cost.  This has attracted a lot of attention, and hopefully his selflessness and respect for the rules and integrity for the game will influence others.

A tough call that would be no doubt difficult to make for a lot of us.

Uisce, just pipe in with some rules are rules bull*feces* and see where you get smoted.

Why is a dude in a pro event carrying prototype golf balls to begin with?  He and/or his caddie should have cleaned out proto-anything prior to the first round.

A prototype ball isn't necessarily "non-conforming" by RoG standards though. The USGA publishes a list of "Conforming Balls", but it only includes balls that have been formally submitted to them. It's only if the tournament establishes a "Condition of Competition" that all balls used in the tourney must first be on the USGA Conforming Ball List that the player would be subjected to DQ. But then, it's kind of BS because the ball may very well be tested as conforming, but because the ball wasn't on some stupid list beforehand that he has to DQ himself.
