Dishwasher Loading - Silverware Up or Down?

I never realized there was a debate about this, but I've heard this can cause arguments in a household.

Some say one method is cleaner than the other.  Others say one method is cleaner and safer.

What's it like in your house?

I used to do all handles down except point/sharp knives, but then got married to someone who is way less anal retentive about that kind of stuff, and decided it wasn't a hill to die on. Now the randomness is dependent on who loads the dishwasher. I still do handles down, it's my silent protest.
