Help w/ Superbowl menu
« on: January 01, 2007, 02:26:01 PM »

I'm hosting my 1st Superbowl party this year.

I'm looking for some of your favorite things that you like to eat when watching a sporting event.

This is what we're thinking so far:

Wings (can't watch a football game w/ out them)
Meatballs
Crabcakes
7 layer bean deep
Meat tray

what else do you guys like at games.

Also my wife and I don't drink, but don't mind those that do.  Looking for a recommendation for a beer or wine that mostly anyone will drink.

BTW, if you're in the Hampton Roads area that day, you're more than welcome to come over.

our can't misses  are homemade chili  or chickfila party platters

as for stuff everyone will drink:

rosemount estates, at typically $10-$12 a bottle is FARRRR better than the $8-$9 bottle options in  jacobs creek/ yellowtail / etc    everything from their vineyards is good

bacardi and coke / diet coke  is a staple

beers are a hard call,  but most people will drink sam adams, heineken, and guiness ...

If you're buying beer for a crowd, go cheap and domestic. Most going to a Superbowl party will be fine with the usual suspects: Bud, Bud Light, Miller Lite, etc. (Under no circumstances, however, should you supply Coors. Worst.beer.ever.) Corona w/ limes is also generally a hit. If people are so snobby and/or picky they won't choke down piss beer at a Superbowl party, their tastes are probably too hard to predict.

If you want to go a little higher class, look for something from your local microbrewer. Most do some sort of a "sampler" 12 pack. If not, amber or brown ales are generally safe.

Have 'em bring their own drinks and sink the $$$ into more/better grub.  It's impossible to please everyone anyway.

Frozen meatballs + (2x) grape jelly + (1x) chili sauce + crockpot.  Awesome.

Busch's original beans + green onion + red peppers + few dashes of tobasco + crockpot #2.

If you're willing to fire up a grill in the winter you can't go wrong with brats.  Maybe a few hotdogs for the picky kids (if any).

Hormel Cure 81 bone-in ham with glaze packet.  Gold foil wrapper.  Best hams around.  < $3.00 per lb. if you get lucky.  Target has 'em.

Good bread.  There should always be good bread.  Everywhere.

For the average Superbowl watcher 1 can of gnats piss per head is about a good estimate.

You can take what's left over after the game back.

For food, at least 40 sarnies and 2 pizzas per person plus anything covered in sour cream.

 Shocked
