The smell of death was in the air
« on: March 15, 2007, 07:28:16 PM »

at work today.

Layoffs  Sad

The president of our division "resigned" 6 weeks ago. The new prez, of course, needed to re-org. Long story short a number of people were let go including a guy who had become a good friend.

I think it's over but I'm pragmatic about it. In today's world it's never really over.

Sorry for the buzzkill.

Our board did a senior-management Operation Clean Sweep just under a year ago.  There were several people who were possibilities to either be replaced or have their responsibilities outsourced.  I was in that latter camp.  Happily, they realized my inestimable value to the company.  That and I'd accumulated a vast amount of dirt on people in my short time here.

Hopefully, you'll suffer the same fate and keep your job.  Bright side: there's always the possibility that you could move upward!  Either way, mojo.

I told him years ago, he should quit, and go work for a mom and pop silicone wafer outfit.

Thanks guys. Clive, for now I'll pass on the humping but you'll be the first I call should I change my mind.

Not really worried today, but with all the machinations going on I'm not sure how long into the future our division will remain in it's current form.

In my former job, you'd get flayed for saying "silicone" when you meant "silicon".

Luckily, we're all laid-back and cool here.

I've had 16 years with the same company, and re-orgs are the hardest thing I have ever been through.

Several times that I can recall I have been through the "Survival Guilt", and it sucks.
