What non-golf books have you been reading lately?
« on: May 04, 2007, 03:00:52 PM »

To avoid jacking Julie's golf books thread, I thought this might be an interesting topic (assuming anyone here actually reads books).

My last five books:

5. Oryx and Crake, Margaret Atwood
4. The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini
3. Coyote Blue, Christopher Moore
2. Letter to a Christian Nation, Sam Harris
1. Starship Troopers, Robert Heinlein

Next on the docket:

Little Big Man, Thomas Berger
The March of Folly: From Troy to Vietnam, Barbara Tuchman
Good Omens, Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. (I read this about once a year.)

Can they be work-related?

Only if the titles contain fewer than a dozen syllables.

Let's see, besides my Bible, currently I have been reading a lot of books by Lori Wick and a ton of crochet patterns (working on a dolly for Chelsea - but when I take out crochet patterns, I have to look at more than just the one I'm working on).

Um, the most recent books are:
Moonlight on the Millpond
The Princess
The Hawk and the Jewel
The Proposal
The Rescue
The Visitor
The Pursuit

Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis

To be followed by either Prey by Crichton or The Bourne Ultimatum (final in the series) by Ludlum - both are waiting patiently on my nightstand.

Just finished "In Harm's Way" by Doug Stanton. Treeemendous book about the sinking of the U.S. Indianapolis and the aftermath of the men surviving in the sea.

Not sure what's next.

The books I've read in the last couple of months:

A False Spring by Pat Jordan. My favorite sports book. I read it (or at least a few chapters) every year around opening day.
All The Kings Men by Robert Penn Warren

and three Civil War novels:
Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier
The Black Flower by Howard Bahr
The Widow of the South by Robert Hicks

Moby *8==>*

Tortilla Flats

Of Mice and Men...read it for at least the 40th time

To Kill A Mockingbird...My favorite book.  I keep reading it trying to 100% understand it.  Part of me thinks I'm shallow, and 'm looking for something that is not there, but the other part thinks that it is too good of a book to grasp everything...Not sure.

All I know is I will turn 39 this year, and though at times I feel 19, I am beginning to understand my life is half over and it sucks...so I seek the things that make me feel young again.  Like books.
