4-1. Unfinished Holes and Conceded Strokes
A player who starts, but does not complete a hole or is conceded a stroke must record for handicap purposes the most likely score. The most likely score may not exceed the player's Equitable Stroke Control limit, defined in Section 4-3. This most likely score should be preceded by an "X." (See Decision 4-1/1.)
There is no limit to the number of unfinished holes a player may have in a round, provided that failure to finish is not for the purpose of handicap manipulation.  |

I would take my 57* and try and open it some and try a flop (that is if the bunker has good sand in it). I'm not afraid of bunker shots as I can usually get out of them when the sand is in decent shape. If the bunkers are in crappy shape and I don't think I can pull off the flop I might look for a better line around the bunker. A long putt is better then facing blading out of the trap into another trap and going back and forth.
Sometimes going backwards or sideways is the best choice.

Sand wedge. Open stance well left of target. Club face square to target. Shot played as a bunker shot. Hit slightly behind the ball, and accelerate through.
I believe opening the stance, well left of the target, negates the ball below the feet aspect. With the ball nestled down in the rough, any attempt to "pick it", or hit down cleanly, will fail. With a full swing* bunker approach, the grass behind the ball will deaden spin, for either rolling out, or spinning back.
*Full swing: In as much as you would play a bunker shot of that distance. I (personally) would hesitate with thoughts of a "flop" shot. For me the speed of the swing, and the precision is not indicated with the conditions listed.

See, that's why I suck at this game. Nonsense! I've just gotten my self into trouble when I think in my mind flop shot, when the ball was to deep, and or the ball below my feet. OTOH, I've hit plenty of bunker shots from those lies.  |

Hmm... I'd play a flop shot with an 8 or 9 iron. You don't have to swing as hard, and the chances of the clubhead sliding right under the ball with say, Sand Iron to Lob Wedge are less. Now go practice the flop with an 8 or 9 iron.  |

I'm thinking a little different here, not being comfortable with a flop shot in this scenario, I might try my 58 degree with more of an attacking downward blow. I don't think I'd open the face anymore because the grass is prolly gonna do that a bit anyway, so I may open my stance a hair. Hopefully the sharp descending blow will put a little bite on the ball to avoid the rear traps. Either that or one of these.  Speaking of avoiding the rear traps sounds like the girl I took to the prom. [high hat crash]. |

You should try it some time... You'll be suprised by the result. It's not a shot that I practice, but certainly one I've seen many times before. Another one you might be interested in is the 4 iron cut shot from about 150 yards that turns about 90* right... |

Another one you might be interested in is the 4 iron cut shot from about 150 yards that turns about 90* right... I do that sometimes but not on purpose. It's called a shank. |
