Who would you say are better drivers/drivers more interesting to follow? Again varies, I like Jimmie Johnson 'cuz he's cute as a bug and I get lost in his dreamy brown eyes.
You'll find that NASCAR fans are THE most brand loyal people in this country, if a person likes Darrel Waltrip and Darrel Waltrip drives the "Tide" car, well **** it they are going to use Tide until the day they die. You can insert Dale Junior/Budweiser or Tony Stewart/Home Depot or Ricky Rudd/Snickers and the loyalty remains the same.
And here I thought I would get a sensible answer, and then I get a reply saying Johnson has dreamy eyes.... *shaking head* Brand loyal, I can understand that. When I actually find shoes that fit my little feet, that's the brand for me. Okay, so tell me this. I like Chevy, Adidas, Menards & Sears, Relic & Fossil, Winchester & Colt. I could probably think of some more, if you need me to. As far as drivers go, I don't care what they look like. Whose character shines when he talks to the press? Interesting to listen to? Etc.... I'll try and give you a sensible answer. Most people I know pick a driver either by the way they drive or by the brand. As far as they way they conduct themselves that will usually turn people off of them (examples would be Gordon, Busch bothers, and the late Dale E.) On the other hand some people love those kind of people. Best advice I can give you is watch a couple races, listen to some interviews and you will find a driver to cheer for. Mine is Raines driving the 96 car (only reason is my company is sponsoring him). My wife likes Jimmy Johnson but does not like Gordon. My sons like Johnson, Tony Stewart. A safe bet would be Dale Jr. but again you just need to watch and pick who you like. Anyone can recommend a driver to you but only you can pick one you like. Okay, that's better. You can count on me doing my own choosing, just was wondering if you thought there would be any that I would find more interesting than others (based on the brands I listed or character). Anyway, now, how 'bout answering those other questions?

Richard Trickle in a bobsled last winter, at the age of 65: A Bodine sled? But of course! They get a bunch of drivers to run at Lake Placid every year and raise money for the bobsled team, and televise the whole thing on Speed. The 'necks love it...

EAGLE, don't worry about the number of laps, miles, etc. All that counts is laps. There's usually a graphic on the screen, and even at the track there's a board, pole or announcer to tell how many to the finish. I remember the Spongebob 500 very well.

*EDIT* Here is the Morgan Shepherd "Race with Faith" link link http://www.morganshepherd.com/index.php Best image I could find right now, there is a cross with the word Jesus on the hood. Menards has a car driven by Paul Menard #15 bright yellow you can't miss it. A lot of the cars are Chevy's check the link I sent for the NASCAR homepage, it lists drivers, sponsors, car makes etc. And here I thought I would get a sensible answer Here...in this forum...you thought you would get a sensible answer...ooooooo kkkkkkkkkaaaayyyyyyy. Rubbin' is racin'? Is that where cars are constantly jockeying for a better position? Is that synonymous with "playin' bumper cars", too? More like bumper cars but not really, Bristol and Richmond are such short tracks and you've got 43 cars jockeying for position, bumping is bound to happen, with short track racing the aerodynamics is not so critical as with a 2 1/2 mile super speedway. PS. that number (43 cars) is always the same whether they race on a 1/2 mile track or the 2 1/2 mile super speedways, actually isn't Pocono 2.66 miles around? How can I tell what the 500 (or any other number) means? I think everywhere except Richmond and Bristol the number refers to miles of the race. And how about the SpongeBob 500? How come NASCAR fans take that? Like anything else nowadays it's all about the money, it costs a ton of dough to bring these guys to town, but the town can make a lot of dough also, so whoever ponies up the lions share of the cash gets to be the title sponsor, the naming can get pretty silly sometimes. Is there an average time that each individual race takes? The simple answer is no, I can't tell you how many times I've missed the endings to races because I set the recorder to end when it was supposed to. I think that's all basic NASCAR 101, next class, NASCAR History..we'll talk about "The King", The Alabama Gang, and "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville".

And here I thought I would get a sensible answer Here...in this forum...you thought you would get a sensible answer...ooooooo kkkkkkkkkaaaayyyyyyy. lol. NASCAR fans are so serious and die-hard about everything related to NASCAR that I thought you would actually be serious as to which drivers you like to follow. That's a logical train of thought, wouldn't you say so? You don't really expect me to know that answer to that question, do you? How am I supposed to know? NASCAR website says 2.5, otherwise, I don't know. How come 43 cars? How can I tell what the 500 (or any other number) means? I think everywhere except Richmond and Bristol the number refers to miles of the race. Okie-dokie! Friend: So what are you doing? You: I'm watching the SpongeBob 500. Friend: Is that a new movie for kids? Why in the world are you watching that? You: Uh, it's NASCAR. Friend: Your "sport" is in trouble. You: It's all about the money... Friend: And that's supposed to persuade me to watch it? Uh, yeah right. Is there an average time that each individual race takes? The simple answer is no, I can't tell you how many times I've missed the endings to races because I set the recorder to end when it was supposed to. *giggle* I was just trying to figure in if I would be able to make the end of this week's race at all. That's also assuming Torp will let me have the television.... I think that's all basic NASCAR 101, next class, NASCAR History..we'll talk about "The King", The Alabama Gang, and "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville".
Okay, start typing.

I don't think Dale Earnhardt's uncle Morgan has raced a Cup race since last year, although I see where he's going to try to qualify for Saturday's Busch (think AAA baseball) but the car has a 3 digit number, never a good sign. He sold his team last year and is working for Bill Davis or somebody like that. You have to know 1st Corinthian 9:24 and take it pretty seriously to work at Michael Waltrip Racing, and if you look at any of David Reutimanns cars, there's a cross on there somewhere. I seem to recall hearing that Carl Edwards is pretty serious about his faith, but then again he was dating well known pit lizard Amanda Beard so I'm not too sure how much of that is marketing, or maybe that's why she stopped dating him, LOL... (Do I really need to define what a pit lizard is?) Menard's a good pick, and has reduced his tendency to run into *feces* without warning over the last couple of years, but he's still a guy with more money than talent, NTTAWWT...

How come 43 cars? That's a great question, I have no answer, FAWGIE? Friend: So what are you doing? You: I'm watching the SpongeBob 500. Friend: Is that a new movie for kids? Why in the world are you watching that? You: Uh, it's NASCAR. Friend: Your "sport" is in trouble. You: It's all about the money... Friend: And that's supposed to persuade me to watch it? Uh, yeah right. Not followin' so I'm gonna take a pass. NASCAR fans are so serious and die-hard about everything related to NASCAR that I thought you would actually be serious as to which drivers you like to follow. I'm more old school, I miss the Cale Yarbrough's and the David Pearson's of the sport and the Bobby and Donnie Allisons, the guys back then were characters, imho the new guys seem almost cut out of the same cloth, wallstreet looking, clean cut, driving suits pressed and clean, something was lost when the corporations took over, but I think for them something better was gained, nascar's popularity (up until just the last couple of years) has taken off like a rocket, at one time recently iirc it was the number one spectator sport in America, and the drivers got rich, kind of like golf in that a driver could not win a race all year and still make a million dollars, I don't have a problem with that, and it's not going to stop me from watching, but follow any of the "new" guys, not really, when dale Sr. died at Daytona we lost John Wayne and no one has stepped up to fill his cowboy boots, humbly submitted. I miss guys like these two, this is from the very first NASCAR race shown on TV in it's entirety (right MFAWG?), make sure you watch the last 20 seconds You have to know 1st Corinthian 9:24 and take it pretty seriously to work at Michael Waltrip Racing The first question is...serioulsy? The second question is...seriously?

1st race shown live in it's entirety on a national network. There used to be some tape delayed and/or partial coverage on ABC Wide World Of Sports and CBS. I have no idea why it's 43, either. I know they ran as many as 60 some at 'Dega and Daytona in the 60's. RE Michael Waltrip Racing: Yes, seriously. Tony Stewart is about as old school as it gets. 'Course Tony could quit tomorrow and go race something else with a pretty minimal income drop, so that helps.

I'll admit the hum of the engines roar around the track with beer is quite intoxicating. I'll find myself staring at a few laps before I realize what I'm doing and change it back to football or something.

What about these questions? Okay, I really am unknowledgeable in this sport, even about the basics. Please keep explaining it as you are though, 'cause the more I have to ask questions about, the more I'll learn.
"Having fenders on it on payday", that's a phrase I'm not familiar with. What does it mean?
What cars are currently being raced at Bristol?
USAC: United States Automobile Club. What defines a USAC car? Are USAC events separate from NASCAR?

I'm gonna take a guess and say that you aren't really looking for me to quote I Corinthians 9:24. (Do I really need to define what a pit lizard is?) I didn't need an accompanying pic to figure out the connotation of that term. Menard's a good pick, and has reduced his tendency to run into **** without warning over the last couple of years, but he's still a guy with more money than talent, NTTAWWT...
So do you have any other suggestions?
