Your Oldest Article of Clothing?
« on: March 05, 2010, 10:10:26 PM »

What do you think is the oldest piece of clothing that you have?  Not something tucked away in the closet, but something that you'll occasionally wear or maybe even something in the regular rotation.

For me, I think it's an old garage.com bootcamp for startups t-shirt from 2000 that I still wear.  Socks and boxers tend to fray relatively soon.  For some reason I seem to misplace baseball caps.  I'm losing a battle with my waistline, so pants don't go very far back.

As for specialty items I have some winter gloves from 1990 that I still wear.

Fantastic pair of Dan Post elk skin cowboy boots that turn 20 next year. Paid 400 bucks for 'em, and would do it again.

Actual clothing? I have a Dale Earnhardt TShirt that says '5 Time Champion'.

I intend to be buried in it. They may have to put it around my thigh, LOL...

Hmmm.  Good question.  I don't keep clothes that long.  Not for any good reason.  Get tired of them or wear them out quickly.  I remember growing up and my Dad telling me Damn you are hard on things.  I guess I still am.

Anyhoo.  The first thing that comes to mind, or the oldest I can think of is my Queens jersey.  circa 96?  I know I had it on that fateful day in 98.  Jeans? No.  Shirts?  No.  Sweaters? No.  Suit?  No.

Yeah, gotta be.

Oh you know what?  I just remembered I have 4 golf "wind shirts" jacket things that may just pre-date that.

One is a Nike that Karen bought me for a spring trip to Iowa.  Sentimental value but it has no pockets for the heaters.  2 are from my buddy when he worked for Farmington Ford.  Nice, they have pockets, but don't keep out wind nor rain.  The last is from a buddy who was with Boston Scientific.  It's nice but it does such a good job at keeping out both it gets too damn hot to wear.

I'm surprised I still have any of them them for all of those reasons.  I think the only reason is Karen wears them more than I do.  I never play golf in them any more.

I can't remember the years, but it's neck and neck between those and my Queens jersey for sure.  95-96.

I think I have some tighty whities from the mid-90s that I wear occasionally when I run out of boxers.

You just know that Aske got into death metal to undo the embarrassment of having worn one of these in the past:

The question is: did he actually keep any of them for posterity's sake or did he set them on fire?

I've recycled most of my stuff, but I do have a leather jacket from around 86 or so that I haven't got rid of yet. I still wear it a couple times a year. I really need to get rid of it though.

Get rid of it? Why? Does it look like this?

Mrs Blader still has outfits from her nursing school days hanging up in the closet.  Sometimes, when I'm in the mood to copulate, I pull one out and lay it on the bed as a way of letting her know that I'm thinking the moment is right.
