Gee, Michelle Wie has a hard time with the rules! This is ALMOST as shocking as finding out that Ricky Martin is a homo****ual!

I'm not seeing the problem here: She grounds the club in the hazard, and takes her 2 stroke penalty.

She's a little pissed about it, and I can't say as I blame her.

Yeah, there's the rub.

My take on the video is she's not off balance.  She's lackadaisical with the club after not getting the shot out, and forgets where she is and where the ball ended up.

But I agree with your take, my opinion(or the R.O.) doesn't mean *feces* since I am not the player and only the player knows.  If she says she was loose and used it for balance, that's the end of it. 

If the game is one of honor and players are expected to call penalties on themselves, you have to allow the width for their opinion.

Also on the rules side, even thought the ball remained in the same hazard, it was not testing or improving.  Tough rule.  Kind of like years back when the one dude hit from greenside bunker to greenside bunker and was pissed about it and slammed his club in the sand. Then someone came over to him and did that finger pointing circle gesture thingy meaning "Dude, you're still in the same bunker."  *fudge*!  More club slamming.

I know what you are saying.

But the hazard is a special bad place to avoid, which is part of the game, and admittedly quirky rules are invoked once you are in a hazard.  But like Aske says, if you don't like that then go hit it behind a movable boulder, instead.  Or through the green?

To complain about hazard rules is a little bit like a baseball player arguing he should be allowed a base after hitting a rope but right at a defender, who makes the play.   He hit it almost perfectly.  Why should someone who has a swinging bunt be allowed a base but not someone who crushes a tough pitch but right at somebody?

I just wish MW would display some honor.
