Forget Socialism for a minute........

How the *fudge* do we pay for A, unless money comes in from B?

At least that's how it works at my house.

Tax cuts don't make the deficit any smaller.

Isn't it that simple?

What I think, in an over-simplified way, what they are doing is trying to get the economy on to a faster recovery.  By getting the economy healed they will bring in more in taxes with more people working and less drawing unemployment.  JMO.

People b1tch and moan that the wealthy gets tax breaks.  They are already bearing a greater burden of the tax base than lower income folks.  What about those that pay zero in income tax, but get a tax refund?  Is that fair to those of us who actually pay into the system?

That's the main reason that I believe that our tax system needs a major overhaul.

The way I see it, it's the economic system that is broken and needs an overhaul. It's an economic system that allowed for the current wage imbalance which sees the average CEO making 400x that of the average worker.

For a progressive tax system, ours is pretty flat. Even still, we have conservatives crying about flattening the tax system even further and spouting off about how the top x% of wage earners pay x% of all taxes. But that's nsot reflective of a tax system that's too progressive. That's reflective of how imbalanced the wage distribution is in this country.

It would be great if lower wage earners were even capable of paying more taxes. That would mean that they are earning greater wages. How are we going to get to that scenario given that there's only so much money in this world? It's got to come from somewhere.

Has this ever actually worked? Liberal orthodoxy says it hasn't, or at least not to the extent now necessary to make a dent in the debt. That orthodoxy tends to be based on complicated concepts like 'Math' and 'History', but I'm curious if you can show where it HAS worked.

People b1tch and moan that the wealthy gets tax breaks.  They are already bearing a greater burden of the tax base than lower income folks.  What about those that pay zero in income tax, but get a tax refund?  Is that fair to those of us who actually pay into the system?

Bull*feces* Supply Sider talking point is bull*feces*. 10 pct of the population controls 95 pct of the wealth and only pays 60 pct of the taxes. You are correct on one thing: It's not *goshdarn* fair, not by a long shot.

That's the main reason that I believe that our tax system needs a major overhaul.

No disagreement here.

re effect of taxation on executive wages and business activity...

Saw an argument somewhere recently that seemed to make a lot of sense, but don't know if there is any real data to support it:

Back in the time, when upper level income tax rates were sky high, rather than compensate executives with the sort of huge pay packages we see today, companies would plow profits back into their operations and invest in enterprise growth.  Executives would be compensated by long-term gains coupled to improved business.  Origin of stock options, perhaps?  Why give all that profit to exec's when it just passes right into the govt coffers, like *feces* out of a goose?

The reduction in upper income tax rates reversed this, and executives began to draw more income from profits, at the cost of investment in the business.  Stock options never really disappeared, but they became uncoupled from their original intent to serve as a carrot to pull performance.

So, by this argument, the wing nut mantra that tax cuts are good for business is PRECISELY opposite of reality.

Again, I don't really know if any data supports this...but it has an air of plausibility to my pinko commie ears.
