lol- My rock star moment of the year

Laura's going to Idaho this weekend to snowboard with her sisters and is taking my board with her because she hates hers. Last time I used it I lost a bolt in one of the bindings so on my lunch break today I took it into a snowboard shop to have them replace it. (My board is (I think) a 1995 model, Jeff Brushie Signature Burton with craps table graphics. It was top of the line when I bought it.)
When I took it in I asked one of the 35 year olds dressed like 17 year olds who works there if he had the right bolt to replace the missing one. He stares at it for a second and looks at me and says, "dude, I have no idea." One of the other 35 year olds dressed like 17 year olds comes over and says "that is a dope board where did you get it?" I inform him that I purchased it new when it was a new model. Both of them stare at it for a few minutes, basking in its apparent glory. Finally one of them says, "dude, I bet my boss would totally buy that from you if you want." (They have a bit of a museum of classic boards.)
I reinforce to them that I just need to get the binding fixed, and was informed that I could probably get a totally sweet deal or like some store credit or something for it if I wanted. I thanked them and told them that the bolt would be plenty. Finally one of them retreated to the back room, found what I needed and told the other one the code to look up in the computer to charge me. When he types the code into the computer the guy just stares blankly at the screen. After a minute he says, "it wants to charge you 10 bucks." I told him I wasn't surprised (it's a pretty specialized bolt which is why I couldn't fix it myself in the first place).
I reach for my wallet and the guy says, "no, dude, I can't seriously charge you 10 bucks for a bolt, especially not for that dope (yes, he said "dope" twice, apparently he missed the memo that it is, in fact, 2007) board. Just go ahead and take it." I told him I'd be happy to pay, but he insisted. I thanked him and headed out the door. On my way out he shouts at me "dude! Don't even think about putting that board on ebay, bring it back here when you want to sell it!" I assured him I would and chuckled about it all the way back to work.

I thought you were going to say that somebody recognized you as a famous (former) heavy metal rock star.

Not likely. Right now I look more like a short circa 1992 Johnathan Frakes than any kind of rock star. I really need to do something about my hair or my beard or both.

What an awesome story. I always knew you had taste.
Other than you like it, is the board sentimental? Would it be worth selling it to the store, for maybe 2 new setups for you and Laura?

I was actually telling Laura that I want a new board before next season, so I'll probably see what they want to give me for it. I sincerely doubt it's worth enough to buy even one complete set up. My guess is I'd get some store credit towards something but might save maybe 30%. It's really not worth much of anything as a serious collectors item, it just happens to be a classic that's in pretty good shape. It was pretty funny to see the stoners at the shop damn near speechless over it though. You'd think I just pulled to a car show in a mint '56 Bel Air or something.

Good story spaceage!
I actually googled Jeff Brushie. I'm guessing he was dope too.

Awesome!! The '57 is better. To be quite honest, even though the '57 is more collectible, I actually prefer the '56. To take it a step further, I actually prefer the Nomad to the Bel Air. YMMV.
