The Penguins aren't going anywhere. Even Governor Swindle says the new arena deal is very close. If there's an NHL team to be had it's the Nashville Predators.

The Flyer organization needs time to recover from many years of Bobby Clarke refusing to realize that the days of goon-thuggery being a formula for winning NHL hockey games ended many years ago. I think now that Clarke is gone, the Flyers can take a new direction.
It's been a down year, but the Philly Flowers actually aren't that far from being very competitive again. There's some talent there.

I agree that Clarke has been a disaster, but not really for the "goon" reason. It's be evident for a long time that a fighting style of hockey can't win anymore, mostly because it isn't really tolerated anymore. We really haven't had goon laden teams under Clarke. What we have had is big, slow, North American dominated teams that lack the speed, skill, and quickness that you need to win in the NHL. For a long time he seemed to have a real problem with European players. It reminded me of the football and baseball teams that used to eschew African-American players. When you turn up your nose at a massive pool of talent like European hockey, you put yourself at a real disadvantage.

Some of both. Flyers had too many good bounces that led to early, point blank shots that went in. Then, once they were down 4-2, the Pens started taking tons of bad penalties (tons of fights. The pens won most of the fights, but it cost them several goals). Once it was 6-2 with the Pens looking to fight it was just garbage time, pile on goals. |
