Please review the above information for yourself and let me know if anything is incorrect.

(Please note that all the damn foreigners have been placed on one team.)

FORMAT:
  • Three rounds of matches, each of nine holes.  The teams are roughly 12-a-side; a total of 21 matches will take place, culminating with 11 singles on the final day.
  • The first two rounds will feature a total of 10 fourball matches, with the order of play determined through mutual agreement by fake captains.  Fourball matches involve two-person teams with each player playing his own ball and completing the hole. The best net score of the four wins the hole.  In singles matches, the result is decided when one player leads by more holes than there are holes left to play.
  • Everyone plays on the final day.  (Well, there's one odd-man-out, but we'll deal with it somehow.)

HOW IT WORKS:
  • TFT and fuzzmental have been selected as fake team captains, as they are their respective teams' lowest US and non-US handicappers for whom Golfhos hasn't been blocked at work.
  • Fake team captains submit their order of play before each round of matches to an appointed tournament official.  The lists from each fake captain are then matched, resulting in the pairings.
  • If any player plays 18, the front nine score will be used as the GHRC score.
  • I will need your score and the rating/slope of the course you play (for the tee set you played from).
  • Handicaps will applied for each hole, with net score determining if the hole has been won or halved.
  • A mildly offensive trophy will be awarded the winning team.

NEXT ACTION:
Captains, please each submit your list of ten names.  They will be paired as fourball teams and matches, in the order you submit them.  The first round of matches should be completed by end of day Sunday, 15th May.

Do we use the course rating and divide by two for the nine hole rating, or do you want the actual slope and rating for the nine you play (available on the usga website for American courses)?

In the tradition of 700 years of bull*feces* once again the Irishman is subjected to rule by the Englishman.

As I was walking down the road
A feeling fine and larky oh
A recruiting sergeant came up to me
Says he you'd look fine in khaki oh
For the King he is in need of men
Come read this proclamation oh
A life in Flanders for you then
Would be a fine vacation now

That maybe so says I to him
But tell me sergeant dearie-oh
If I had a pack stuck upon my back
Would I look fine and cheerie oh
For they'd have you train and drill until
They had you one of Frenchies oh
It may be warm in Flanders
But it's draughty in the trenches oh

The sergeant smiled and winked his eye
His smile was most provoking oh
He twiddled and twirled his wee moustache
Says he I know you're only joking oh
For the sandbags are so warm and high
The wind you won't feel blowing oh
Well I winked at a cailin passing by
Says I what if it's snowing oh

Come rain or hail or wind or snow
I'm not going out to Flanders oh
There's fighting in Dublin to be done
Let your Sergeants and your Commanders go
Let Englishmen fight English wars
It's nearly time they started oh
I saluted the Sergeant a very good night
And there and then we parted oh

Ah well, nothing to be done about it.  I'm in.

We need to see if twoiron and wishi even have the option of playing a USGA rated course.  I know they're few and far between in Ireland.

Question on format--

Since it appears it will be "match play", how do you account for the differences in par/hole.  For example, my 3rd hole is a par 3.  What if my "opponent" has a par 5 for his or her 3rd hole?  I also only have one par 5 on the front 9, what if the opposition has 2?

(Wish we coulda played this past weekend-I finally had a "break through")

Stupid n00b point of clarification: I'm playing in a 4-man scramble next week. How, if at all, would this apply and/or need to be reported?

I'm....I'm..speechless and overcome with emotion.  Crying   My first fake captaincy outside of a little fishing boat my father got for me and my brother in my youth. But I digress.

On to the important matter of selecting a fake assistant captain. One to make sure the beer is cold and keep me "real". I have a team of winners but I need to go with someone who has experience working with the Captain and most of all, female. I'm down to two finalists:

I don't think we have that option, however I'm sure our course rating system can be accomodated to suit all of you on the other side of the pond.

While Golfhos is currently blocked at work... the Prolefeed isn't, so I can check either site..

w00t!... let the games begin...

If you have the rating/slope for the nine you play, give it.  If not, give me the course and the 18-hole rating/slope.  (I reserve the right to look it up and see if I can find the nine-hole numbers.)

I'll lightly switch the order of holes for one player to make the hole-by-hole pars match.  If the nines are just incompatible, I'll cheat.

Did you expect anything less of me?

If you aren't playing your own ball tee to hole, the score is unusable.  Have fun!
