Played 27 today...
« on: August 15, 2007, 07:36:13 PM »

My good friend who lives in Las Vegas has been in town for the last couple of days so I took some time off work to play with him. We played 27 holes on Monday and I was the suckiest suck who ever sucked. Didn't help that I had the worst hangover I've had since college, but that's probably just me making excuses.

Played again today, another 27. I was driving the ball well (only missed 3 fairways all day), putting well (42 putts for 27 holes and only two 3 putts), and was generally striking the ball well, but my GIRs sucked ass, my scrambling was just as bad, the par 3s were absolutely killing me today, and I just could not score. Ended up shooting 52/48/48. I felt like I played much better than my score reflected. Very frustrating. Thanks for listening.

Well....

Monday we were set to play 18 at Eaglewood, because I had a punch card with a bunch of twofers. So we teed off at 8:30, but play was slow so we didn't get to the turn until a little bit after 11:00. The guys in the clubhouse start freaking out that we're just barely making the turn because they have a tournament with a 12:30 shotgun start. After much ado involving "why the *fudge* would you send out a stream of foursomes between 8:00 and 8:30 if you have a shotgun in 4 hours?" we made them give us a raincheck for the back 9 and we drove over to Bountiful Ridge and played 18 there.

Today, we used the rainchecks from Monday at Eaglewood, plus my twofer dealio for the back 9. When we were finished, we decided that it wasn't enough, so we went twofer again for another 9 on the front.

Long answer to simple question.

Two good courses.  Eaglewood is always slow and backed up.  Don't know why.  I always suck on that course and I have no idea why.  Last round was 96 and that's about as good as it gets for me there.

Bountiful Ridge is a fine, fine course but having a reachable par-5 (well, it's sure perceived that way) followed by a par-3 with a ridiculously difficult green to start always makes it sputter along until about halfway through the front nine.  After that it plays fast.  I like it a lot.

Both of those courses can chew you up especially if you start visiting the scrub oak.  I think they're both a good challenge and there are days when scoring is very tough.

I know you're not happy with the scores but they weren't on Fore Lakes and Meadowbrook.  Stand tall brotha.

Yeah, I never shoot well at Eaglewood either. It's a shame because it's a great track and it's so close to my house (not a single stoplight between here and there).

B.R. is probably my favorite local course, or at least my favorite within a 20 minute drive, or so. On monday they were starting all 18 hole play on #10, which made it flow much better than normal.

I guess I'd rather shoot 100 at Eaglewood than 85 at Rose Park (which isn't a bad course, in it's own right), it was just one of those days where I can't actually place where my game went wrong. Just a whole bunch of missed greens, flubbed chips, etc. I guess. Still had a good time.  Thumbs Up

I can't picture you all up in the dude's face, giving him the what for.

Perhaps I overstated a bit. It wasn't quite a Walfredo-stylie old school bare-knuckles brawl, mostly I was just sarcastic to the guy.

When that chit happens to me I just keep quiet, go home and throw darts at a picture of Joe Watts.  He's ultimately to blame for everything wrong with Utah golf anyway.
