Quote
Climate change campaigner Al Gore and the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have been jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Now, I'm not much on conspiracy theories but yesterday (maybe Wed.) the Beeb had a front page story describing how An Inconvenient Truth cannot be shown in British schools without opposing opinions presented as it, and I paraphrase the judge, contains at least nine unsupportable declarations of fact.  I was going to post a little "yesterday v. today" thing making fun of the irony.  However, I can't find the bloody story.  Did they remove it?   Shocked

And some claim American media is biased.  The Beeb is so over the top they even use "quoted" RSS story titles when the story doesn't jive with their opinion.  For example, they'll title a story "Twin blasts 'kill 27' in Baghdad".  Nobody in the story is quoted as actually saying 'kill 27'.  It's as if they'd prefer to substitute '27 murdered - blood on the hands of George Bush' but can't so they Air quotes airquote Air quotes instead.

FWIW, I believe global warming is a real thing (not quite the doomsday scenario Al Gore would have us believe but definitely happening) we should do something about and the war in Iraq is a horrible mistake.  Please don't take me to task on those subjects.  I just wanted to dig at the Beeb.  They've been doing this sort of *feces* for ages.

Well - my belief.... We are obviously in a warming period right now and human activity likely plays some part in that, but, did not 'cause' it.  And the level and consequences of this human impact is pure speculation at this point.  Speculation that needs to be done, but not used as 'fact'.

But, now there is a documentary on the History Channel (How The Earth Was Made) that proclaims that any global warming we are having, or will suffer in the future - is completely insignificant to the coming ice age.  Global warming will be a blip on the radar once that hits.  This is why I stay extra nice to my brother in Tampa - never know when I'll need a new home  Wink

I do what I can to be a good boy - thats my limited sphere of influence.

So - I can understand the British school systems having concerns, but I wouldn't make this into a Scopes Trial or anything.  A little overreaction I think.

I saw that Beeb story yesterday, although I couldn't find anywhere that listed what the 9 facts (out of over a thousand IIRC) were.

Alot of the wingnut 'Factual Errors' in Fahrenheit 9-11 amounted to things like:

'The picture of Don Rumsfeld has the wrong tie for the date he made the quote in question, ergo he never said the WMD were in Tikrit'

or some such nonsense.

Anyway, the entertainment value of watching people stumble all over themselves complaining that this is absolute proof that there is a global conspiracy against the Republican Party in the US far outweighs the remnants of the debate.

One was that the movie declared numbers (10s/100s/1000s??) of polar bears were drowning because they had to swim long distances between ice.  Apparently the study Gore quoted provided only that a family of four died due bad weather.

Stuff like that.

I don't see this as a competition between who tells the more bull*feces* stories.  I see it more that most of us are somewhere in the middle and when you tell a bull*feces* story we start to question the rest of what you say.  Goes for Al Gore.  Goes for George Bush.

I think crises such as this will be what finally pushes us into serious alternative energy research.  Whether they be economic/social/environmental or whatever.  I presume/hope it'll work out.  I really do.  Big JIT guy here.  Wink

What's really interesting is the 'Will He Run Now' speculation going on.

I'm thinking not so much, no.

Hell no.  He's probably $100k a speech at this point.  Maybe even a bonus if everyone stays awake.
