Oh, I Got Those Scrolling Blues.
« on: April 03, 2008, 12:40:05 PM »

Ok.  Here's the dizzle.  As I'm sure you are all painfully aware(If not, I will be happy to provide chronological links for you get up to speed).  I now got me this cool laptop.

I'm good.  OP Sys. (that's lingo)  is where I want it.  I'm personalized.  Fire Fox with all the buzzers and bells.  I'm loaded.  Just picked up a WiFi notebook card, so I can be in the kitchen and rockin' the bits (low hanging fruit for a new Clive Euphemism).

I'm all connected and everything is Shirley, except when I  Air quotes scroll  Air quotes It is laggy as hell.

Angry  I get this ripple down Venetian blind effect.  I can't take it.  I have even installed a FF add on, that has a hand and drags like a PDF dealie.  Way cool, but even with the hand job (man, I'm just givin' 'em away) It still acts the same.

So.  To get down to brass tacks:  Is this simply a function of surfing wireless upstairs?  e.g.  I need to accept a little lag?  Or is there some setting I'm missing?

I did download for FF the smooth scroll thingy.  Then went back and hooked the "even smoother scroller".  I got this thing set on the highest setting:  Dude, you got FireFox scrolling smooth to the groove. Like sandwich bread.

Still unacceptable.

Is it just: Is what it is?, or can you help a brother out?

Thanking you in advance, as I still owe you a hamburger next week.

Check to make sure your ball bearings are well lubricated.

Shouldn't there be some thing where the page is chaced for quicker seamless viewing?

I get that too on my laptop sometimes. I wonder if I have enough ram. Could be your problem too? Have you tried connecting with cable and see if the problem goes away? If so then it is the wireless deallie.

Mess not with cables of any length - this is it.... (unless IE scrolls just fine, then it *may be* a FF thang).

Then I suggest you hurry to roll call, Senator.

How does your scrolling look with any application other than FireFox?

Seems to be the same on IE. Sad  That sux0rz.

Will try Spankers' hard wire test later.

FWIW  My WiFi car is just "G"  Any chance it'll be faster with another card?

Again - forget the wire test - that ain't it.  Memory my boy - memory - particularly display/video memory.  Respond to the angry geek with your specs  Wink

I agree with others that it doesn't sound like the wifi card.  Does it make a difference if you use the laptop right next to the wireless router instead of far away?

G should be fine.  Even B isn't that bad.  I'm surprised you needed a card and the laptop didn't have wifi built-in.

What happens if you right-click on your desktop, click Properties, select the "Settings" tab, and try a lower setting under "Color Quality"?  Does that make any difference in the scrolling?
