Whatcha think of them?  Anyone registered/profiled/whatever in one?

Just curious, as I've had to do some information sleuthing a decent bit recently and found several of my targets had accounts on places like that.

I have a profile at LinkedIn, but to be honest I find the site to be more of a chance for people to inflate their professional credentials than a worthwhile opportunity for legitimate networking. My first clue was when I saw my secretary's profile and she had called herself a "Senior Writer/ Editor."

I have an account on LinkedIn.

Tremendous tool for networking and for  Air quotes grown-ups Air quotes on the interwebs. At least for what I use it for. When I found myself without a job this spring I was amazed at how many current and former friends/colleagues/past business associates were on this site.

I just read spacey's post. I agree that inflating professional credentials probably happens but it's no different than a resume. I do think it's a good tool for networking. I used it with my references to get my resume in the hands of people actually doing the hiring instead of HR people.

Like any tool out there you need to be careful but I met people I would never have if it didn't exist. YMMV..............

I'm on LinkedIn, but don't do anything with it except confirm "invitations to connect" when I get an email.

I'm on facebook mainly because of scrabble games with friends.

I'm on LinkedIn, but only because of invites from others - I have never used the site.

It has helped me re-connect with people from years past just through the invites.

Did your profile information "go public" when you registered?  I ask because (a) if I registered, I'm not sure I'd want even my name showing up, but  (b) I probably need to register so I can see the full profiles for my search targets.

You could always register as Umlatte Strohson to get a feel for the place and check things out before going whole hog.

I have an account but don't really use it. Some of people that I'm linked to use it heavily.
