amazed at this gem of scientific thought
« on: February 28, 2007, 10:34:17 PM »

"This snake oil is really silly...Line up 10 experts, your choice, and tell them to predict the temperature to within 1 degree next week...9 out of 10 will be wrong...And these clowns are saying they can predict a 7/10'ths increase in 100 yrs?"

since when is meteorology the same as climatology?

if i dump a packet of sugar in my tea,  can I tell you exactly which regions (say, 100 A^3 sampling) of the tea will 1st be the sweetest , or exactly at what time (in say picoseconds) a diffusion equilibrium is reached ?    sure I can.  of course, I will probably be wrong, even with the best of calculations.  the system is complex and subject to countless external influences beyond control/prediction.  ..... does that mean when I postulate that in 10 minutes the whole cup will have reached a near equilibrium distribution of sweetness I am wrong ?

Sugar doesn't dissolve very well in iced tea.

Agreed, I don't put anything in mine except maybe some lemon or lime (depending largely on the tea), but laura likes to sweeten hers a little bit. She generally uses splenda which dissolves a little bit better than sugar.

I haven't had a Long Island Iced Tea in years. Utah liquor laws make it damn near impossible to get a decent one, not to mention they're almost prohibitively expensive. Maybe I'll have to have a few when I'm in Vegas next month.

Nope, just a convention I attend every year. Usually it's right around St. Patrick's Day, but this year it's the last week of April.
