Wild Ho(g)s
« on: November 01, 2007, 11:46:21 AM »

The day after American Made announced his departure from the world of two wheeled transportation, I am pleased to announce my imminent return to it. Anyone who has been playing along at home already knows that after 10 years without one, and about 5 years of begging for a new one, I was granted spousal approval to purchase a motorcycle in the Spring. Earlier this week I was made an offer I couldn't refuse, and my wife was surprisingly receptive to my non-refusal of said offer. I finalized the loan today.

Those who were following closely will know that I was looking at entirely different bikes than the one I am purchasing. Long drawn out story on how this one came to fruition, but the final nail in my non-HD coffin was taking a spin on my brother's new Street Glide. After that it didn't take much prompting to change my mind. Who knew an 800lb big twin was so easy to ride? It also fits my frame (short legs and all) better than many of the other bikes I was looking at.

So without further ado, allow me to introduce my new bike (pending a drive to Denver either this weekend or next to pick it up):

1995 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI Electra Glide Ultra Classic 30 Aniversary Editon. Fuel Injected. Cruise control. 17,200 miles. Full air ride suspension. White Brothers 1 1/2 inch lowering kit, also 4 inch black windshield, bag liners and extra seat. The bike can be set up full dressed or as a street glide look.

Not the best pics, but I'll get some good ones up as soon as I have the bike at home.

Oh believe me, we've got traffic issues all our own. I've been back and forth on this quite a bit over the last few years, particularly once the wife became a nurse. I know there is no such thing as total safety, and that no matter how careful you are, sometimes *feces* just happens. I've just decided that I can't not do everything I enjoy just because it carries some amount of risk. (Oddly enough, She loves rockclimbing, and would never give it up just because it's risky.)

One of the contingencies of the spousal approval is full safety gear, all the time. This includes a full faced helmet, gloves, etc. Given some of the *feces* I've seen in my life, it was something I was planning on anyway. (I think I read somewhere: sweat wipes off, road rash doesn't.) I know leather and helmets aren't foolproof, but neither are seatbelts and airbags.

If winter weren't upon us I'd probably ride, but since it's Colorado in November, I believe I'll trailer it.

Fo sho. Evingston (in the local vernacular) is always a great launching place for good rides.

I fought and fought and fought against HD, but like I say, in the end it just turned out to be an offer I couldn't refuse.

Congrats, spacey!  Not the style of bike I'd be looking for, but still pretty nice looking.  Stay safe and enjoy!
