Onkyo, thus far.....
« on: November 14, 2007, 03:52:39 PM »

SUCKS!  Devil Sad

It won't accept the DVI-HDMI input from my cablebox/dvr.  When I try the component inputs instead performance is terrible, especially when playing back recorded programming.  Unacceptable.

Since the DVI-HDMI works just fine directly to my display, I'm on the phone trying to get Onkyo support.  On hold for 35 minutes now with no person picking up yet!!!  Angry Cussing

I'll answer in a minute my young Took.  Just let me finish up watching NFL network replay of Steelers v. Browns and the last 20 minutes of MI:2.   Devil

Got quality audio?

Hmmmm.  Those speakers on my tv, connected by the little read and black wires sound great.

My guess is spacey's Harley sounds equally kickin'.

Just sayin'

Audio works fine - no issues.

Its the video input from the Motorola cablebox.

Onkyo finally answered the phone.  Seems the 805 requires HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) and the Motorola box does not support that.  They cannot even guarantee that a firmware update will fix the issue.  Given that Motorola is one of the largest manufacturers of set top boxes, I find this insane.

If I get Charter to update my box and it still doesn't work - the Onkyo goes back.

More evidence that DRM is *goshdarn* up the world of entertainment  Devil

This really pisses me off.

Oh - and the component video 'work around' sucks too.  I get picture washout in the top 1" of the screen, and on playback of recorded programming there are sync issues at the bottom of the screen periodically, and eventually it will 'wrap' the picture around the screen - happens a couple times during a 1 hour show and I have to stop and resume playback to fix it.

Not a happy camper here.

live chat with Charter now - this is fun  Roll Eyes

Lets give the indonesians a cool sounding american moniker so we think they are local... until their broken engrish even in typing gives them away  Roll Eyes

Figures they have no idea what I'm talking about.  Spent 15 minutes trying to convince her that, yes, I really do have HD service; once we finally corrected 'Kate's' problem - she had no idea what I was talking about and punted to the 888 number  Sad

Rick, sorry my man.

I think you're giving up on the wrong piece.  HDCP, like it or not, is here to stay.  Unless you stay with what you currently have forever.   Wink

I know, but if Charter doesn't support it I'm outta luck.  Just more than surprised Onkyo doesn't even have the option of disabling it given the number of settop boxes out there that do not have support.

Oh - and the component video processing is horrid.

blah, blah, directtv, blah, blah..... shut up!  Wink
