Intellectual Trans-Gendering -- How Do You Fare?
« on: November 27, 2007, 03:57:49 PM »

Think for a minute about how you're perceived in various settings (work, social, maybe an organization or something).  Now suppose you woke up tomorrow and you were a woman.  (Women reading this thread, don't become any more confused than usual.  I'm talking to the men here.  And BTW, I like your shoes.)  How do you think you'd be perceived, emotionally and in terms of smarts?  Let's assume that everyone tomorrow will not think twice about your gender switch itself.  (I could take a cheap Rickhicks shot here, but ...)

Yeah, it's odd.  But I'm still at work, doing something kinda dull, and the mind wanders to scary places sometimes.

Tough question.  First order of business would be convincing Stephen Rhea it's all good.

Other than that... WTF is wrong with you?

I'd be a bit of a bitch, and still would not sleep with you no matter what you bought me.

For me, I don't think it would be a good experience at work.  I work with a lot of engineer/Asperger's syndrome types.

I sit next to a woman programmer around my age, and people either tend to be condescending and have little respect for her technical skills or are deathly afraid to talk to her. Sad

I say little change.  My field is dominated by women.  As a scan technologist/care giver, I think I would be looked upon, and dealt with about the same as now.

Although, as Jules pointed out a week ago, I'd be too busy in the restroom all day to take notice.

Hmmm, I am athletic and in decent shape - I could be a hottie with a bag over my face.  Restroom it is!

So you think your present level of competence, your intelligence, and your sense of humor would be perceived less positively if you were a woman?

So you think your present level of competence, your intelligence, and your sense of humor would be perceived no differently if you were a woman?

Definite frigid bitch with penis envy. Not too different than now. Perhaps slightly less hairy. Maybe.

If I went to work tomorrow as a woman I would be fired for masturbating on the job.

By some people I work with, yes.  Many would be neutral, a few more positively.  But overall, I'd guess there's more on the negative side.

Intelligent, a bit bitchy perhaps and tantalizingly unattainable.  Shocked

But my (almost) shaved head would probably be a major turn-off.
