The temperature in International Falls, Minnesota, fell to a record 40 below zero Monday, just a few days after the northern Minnesota town won a federal trademark making it officially the "Icebox of the Nation."

Note that it was -40º without wind. I think I'd rather have that than -40º because of the wind, at least then it's not being blown into your face (or messing up your hair  ). Either way, it's on it's way to cold. However, if you prepare for such temps before you go outside, it's not all that bad. |

I just learned this recently. Airliners don't fly extremely northern routes in the winter as jet fuel congeals at something like -26 C. Over the arctic circle. At 36K feet. Or you can have -38 C on the ground in Minnesota in January.  |
