What is it with Germans and cats??
« on: July 14, 2008, 03:27:10 PM »

Tuesday July 15, 2008
A cat has been posted 724 kilometres by mistake after crawling into a parcel box, which was loaded with presents, for a nap. After a two-day journey from Rottach-Egern in southern Germany to Dorsten in the north, the cat leapt out unharmed when the parcel was opened.

I took two years of college German back in the early '60s.  And I've forgotten most of it.

I minored in German for a couple of years when I was first in college (while majoring in English Lit, I wonder what in the hell I thought I was going to do with that degree). I can still read it okay (not great, my vocabulary is dwindling, both in German and in English), but I can't write or speak much anymore other than to order a beer and ask where the bathroom is. And really, what other German might a guy need to know?

I know a little German:

Four years in high school, then forgot most of it for ten years, then brushed up for a trip to Europe, rinse and repeat step three.  I can get by, but don't expect to conversate.
