Mowing: Hobby, Or Chore?
« on: September 10, 2007, 02:55:08 PM »

I usually shift mid-season.  In early spring, I like to see it green up, and have it looking nice.

About this time of year, I dread going out there to push the *fudge*in' thing around in circles.

We have a fairly small yard too.

So, Holiday weekend, status post bourbon not withstanding.........

What's your take on it?

don't have a yard now.

parents have a huge one (as did both sets of grandparents) that I got to do growing up, in addition to doing some others around the neighborhood for some spending $.

never minded it except in july/august (for the heat, and the fact most yards were dead anyways!)...  always kind of enjoyed it actually...  an art to it....

that said, get yourself a riding mower then...  Tongue

Chore.  The front yard is more of a chore because there's a slope and it's bigger, and when I mow the backyard at least I have a dog running around trying to play.

But I admit, the lawn does look good after it's been mowed.

LOL!  I'm stuck between that, and Aske's suggestion.  If I was on a rider, I'd get laughed out of the neighborhood, for trying to turn one around on a postage stamp.

That, and the whole.......(glug, glug, mow, mow, run over a cat, lights, drive down I 35 to Iowa, zealous cop, well  you get the idea.)

[Edit]  I just realized I made the choices above entirely too difficult for Clive to choose between.

He'll never be able to choose between preening his pasture, and owning sheep.  What was I thinking.

I'm exactly the same. Except for the part about loving it.

btw, the real secret to a great looking  yard (aside from keeping it healthy... duh) is in one's edging and weedeating skills

I put mowing in the same category as vacuuming and washing dishes.  Necessary evils.   (Seriously, I'd rather scrub a toilet - much higher reward/effort ratio)

A neighbor has an automatic lawn mower - sort of a robot thing.  He just sits on the porch with a beer and watches the lawn get mowed.  Now that's my idea of lawn care!

I agree with the love it until I hate it crowd. But......I mow a large expanse and have a rider. Plugging in the tunes and having a beer while mowing can take me away from the world for a bit. Or make it look like I'm turning into George Jones.

If one were from Pocatello, one might vote for buying sheep despite not even having a lawn.
