What player's jersey or number have you worn?
« on: November 26, 2007, 01:41:18 PM »

The Sports Superstition thread reminded me of something I thought about the other day, but I don't want to threadjack it.

I used to have a Jack Ham (#59, not POW!) jersey as a kid.  It wasn't a full-on authentic replica type, but was pretty nice, especially since it was a gift from an uncle/friend of the family.

I think that's the only player's jersey I've ever owned, although I seriously wanted a Paul Coffey Penguins sweater in high school, but they were muy pricey.

On a related topic, I used to wear #14 on my team uniform if it was available as long as I can remember.  From growing up playing soccer or lacrosse, or even in my twenties when we printed T-shirts for volleyball leagues and tournaments.  I picked that number when I was a little kid I because I was a fan of a nondescript defender on an old MISL Pittsburgh Spirit team, and, amusingly, the number just stuck with me for some reason.

Anyway, this was just a long-winded way of asking two questions:
1) What players' jerseys have you owned (if any) over the course of your life?
2) When choosing a number for a team sport growing up, did you ever wear a number because of a particular athlete?  (ie #23, #16, etc.)

I had a Grant Hill Pistons jersey, but only because I needed a tank top (can't remember why) and it was on clearance because he didn't play for them anymore.

I thought about getting a Greg Ostertag "00" shirt as a joke, but in the end it was just too expensive for a joke.

I owned a Fran Tarkenton jersey as a kid IIRC.

This is the only jersey I have today. Or "sweater" to be proper.

When I was a kid I had a Jamelle Holloway OU jersey # 4.  He was my favorite OU football player by far.  I think I was in kindergarten when I got it for christmas before the orange bowl.  I don't recall ever owning another jersey.

In sports as a kid I was either one of the following numbers:

3 - Since it is a part of my name by being the III
7 - Just liked the number and felt the best player should wear it
24 - When either of the above were not available probably because of Ken Griffey Jr

I hope it wasn't spelled that way on the jersey.  Wink

Vikings #26 Robert Smith.

High School Football  #26

Adult Softball  #10

But were numbers I was just given, but after wearing them for a year I liked the idea of sticking with it.

The H.S. Football was only a few years(contrary to what some of you believe) The #10 in softball I wore/played for many years until I retired.  Waiting now for a few more years to pass to join an old *fudge*ers league.

[Edit:  I forgot I had a Cleveland Indians jersey, I forget the number.  Home, so no last name.  And I keep intending to buy a Twins jersey but as stated above, they are spendy.]

Jersey - I had a #12 Miami Dolphins (Griese) jersey as a kid.  At this time I have both a Pujols (Cardinals) and a Fabregas (Arsenal) authentic jersey.

I've always worn #6 on my shirts given the choice.  Not modeled after any player, just a number I choose years ago and stuck with.

LOL no name on the Jersey just the # 4.  I took a stab at spelling it without the google.  Although now looking back his name is spelled many different incorrect ways on the interwebs so it may not have helped.

I've always worn #6 in hoping to channel rickhicks and make time with women of questionable morals.

Mostly didn't work.  I don't think I got the attitude right.

I don't do jersey's and never had a number--I always wore whatever number the coach threw at me.

But if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't really care other than to INSIST that it be a prime number.  Prime numbers just sort of give that testicular surge thing...I don't know why.

I didn't remember how to spell it either, but your way definitely looked funny to me.  Cheesy

That name sure conjures up old memories of option football. Plays like this are a thing of the past.
